Recently, Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology has released a list of 18 Guangdong key laboratories approved in 2017, of which, 8 laboratories in Shenzhen has been approved; Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Cell Microenvironment and Disease Research led by Professor Wu Chuanyue and the Key Laboratory of Soil and Groundwater Pollution Control of Guangdong Province led by Professor Zheng Chunmiao, have been funded with RMB 3 million each, totaling RMB 6 million. This is SUSTech’s first approved provincial key laboratories, a breakthrough of SUSTech in terms of provincial scientific research platform.

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Cell Microenvironment and Disease Research focuses on studying cell microenvironment and its compound effects on the behavior of the cells. The Laboratory aims to tackle the overarching challenge of major and chronic diseases such as cancer and osteoarthritis to identify opportunities for the therapy that target cell/microenvironment interface. With the support of Shenzhen City and Guangdong Province, the Laboratory will establish a cell microenvironment & disease research platform at international advanced level and a leading talent cultivation base of corresponding fields with international influence in China, offering the technical support and innovation R&D base for the Guangdong biological medicine and health industry, and serving the great national development strategy and the regional economic and social development.

Relying on “Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Soil and Groundwater Pollution Control” and “Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Solid Waste Pollution Control”, the Key Laboratory of Soil and Groundwater Pollution Control of Guangdong Province makes the cross-discipline and innovative research on basic theory and application technology of soil and groundwater pollution control and restoration to cater the vital demand of national soil and groundwater environment protection and ecological safety. With international-standard management system and scientific research in international perspective, the Laboratory is committed to the international development, trying to build a public laboratory platform and talent cultivation base of soil and groundwater research with important international influence.

It is reported that SUSTech’s Guangdong-provincial-level key laboratories will be taken as a key platform support for the university's scientific and technological innovation, facilitating the scientific research, discipline construction and high-level talent cultivation, and also contributing to the local strategy to drive development by scientific and technological innovation.
